北京航空航天大学体育馆是一座多功能综合体育馆，按二类比赛场地可进行国际、国内正规比赛；考虑教学、行政、文娱活动的需要，可进行大型集会、文艺演出、排练，体育教学、专业队训练；并附有练习馆、游泳馆及全套辅助用房。该馆是第21届世界大学生运动会排球比赛用馆；2008年奥运会举重比赛用馆。

本体育馆考虑到学校平时的多功能使用，设置了一个多功能的舞台，舞台上是17排活动座椅，正式比赛时，将活动座拉出，是看台，可容纳1288人；平时，收进活动座椅，则是训练场地，面积为16.2m×48.6 m；集会演出时是一大型舞台，可以配备固定的舞台及灯光设备，舞台大、设备好，适应大型及专业演出，演出效果好。避免了国内大多数体育场馆在集会、演出时只能在场地中央，部分观众看后脑勺，或在场地一边另行搭建，偏台一隅，大部分观众都斜着看的弊病。一个空间多种用途，是本工程的最大特点，获得了显著的投资回报率和经济利益。首创看台、舞台及运动场地为一体的建筑空间，创国内排数最多的活动看台（17排），创国内高校中活动台口（26～40m）最大的多功能舞台。

The Gymnasium of Beihang University is a multi-functional comprehensive gymnasium which can host international and domestic professional sports events as a Class-II venue. It also accommodates assemblies, performing arts, rehearsals, physical education and training for professional sports to meet educational, administrative and recreational needs. Besides the main gymnasium, it has a training hall, a swimming pool and a full set of auxiliary rooms. It host the volleyball games of the 21st World University Games and the weightlifting programme of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The gymnasium is designed with a multi-functional stage with 17 rows of removable seats, which can be a terrace to accommodate 1,288 in sports games, a training space of 16.2m×48.6m when the seats are removed, and turned into a stage with professional settings and lighting for great performances. This design maximizes the audience’s experience during the performance as it eliminates back seats and minimizes the number of side seats. The multi-functional space, as the highlight of this project, wins significant economic return. It is the first space of its kind with terrace, stage and training space combined, and the largest of its kind(17 rows of seats, 26~40m) in a Chinese university.
