中南大学湘雅二医院是我国著名医学院‐‐湘雅医学院的附属医院之一。第二住院大楼工程是医院总体规划建设中的第一期工程，是湖南省的重点工程项目。总共设有手术室34间，是当时全国规模最大的单体外科综合楼建筑。护理单元采用“工”字型体型，充分利用自然采光、通风，降低能耗。并首次在超大型医院病房与护理单元治疗室使用直接运输梯(物流系统的雏形)。

The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University is one of the affiliated hospitals of Xiangya Medical College, a famous medical school in China. The second inpatient building project was the first phase of overall planning and construction of the hospital and a key project in Hunan Province. With 34 operating rooms in total, it was the largest single complex surgery building in China at that time. The nursing unit was in the shape of "I" to make full use of natural lighting and ventilation to reduce energy consumption. For the first time, the direct transportation ladder (the prototype of logistics system) was used in the super-large hospital ward and the treatment room of the nursing unit.
